About Elton John

Elton John has built one of the most successful and enduring careers in popular music. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Pinner, England, he began playing piano as a child and later studied at the Royal Academy of Music. His long-running songwriting partnership with lyricist Bernie Taupin helped create a catalog that spans rock, pop, ballads, soul and theatrical music.

His international breakthrough accelerated with the 1970 album Elton John and the single Your Song. During the 1970s, albums including Honky Château, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Caribou and Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy established him as one of the era's dominant recording and touring artists. Songs such as Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, Bennie and the Jets, Philadelphia Freedom and Don't Go Breaking My Heart became major chart hits and remain central to his catalog.

Elton continued scoring hits across later decades with songs including I'm Still Standing, I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues, Nikita and Sacrifice. His work for The Lion King expanded his reach to another generation, while Candle in the Wind 1997 became the biggest-selling physical single of all time according to his official biography. His official site credits him with more than 327 million records sold worldwide and more than 70 Top 40 hits.

Beyond recording, Elton John became one of music's defining live performers. His career has included thousands of performances around the world, culminating in the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
