CLE Radio | Music, Media & Community
CLE Radio is an online music and entertainment platform featuring music programming, podcasts, artist discovery, community discussions, and advertising opportunities.
We respect the intellectual property rights of artists, songwriters, record labels, publishers, broadcasters, creators, and other rights holders.
This page explains our policies concerning music licensing, digital broadcasting, copyrighted material, user submissions, advertising, and copyright complaints.
Music Licensing & Digital Broadcasting
Music recordings and musical compositions are protected by copyright law. Different types of music use may require different permissions, licenses, or royalty payments.
Depending on the programming and distribution method, relevant rights may include:
- Public performance rights for musical compositions.
- Digital public performance rights for sound recordings.
- Reproduction and distribution rights.
- Direct permissions for interactive or on-demand streaming.
- Synchronization rights when music is combined with video.
CLE Radio recognizes that licensing requirements vary depending on how content is delivered and used.
Music Rights Organizations
Music licensing in the United States involves several organizations, including:
ASCAP — American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers
Represents songwriters, composers, and music publishers in connection with public performance rights.
BMI — Broadcast Music, Inc.
Administers public performance rights for musical compositions within its repertoire.
SESAC
Provides music licensing services for works represented in its repertoire.
GMR — Global Music Rights
Represents public performance rights for musical compositions in its repertoire.
SoundExchange
Administers statutory royalties for certain eligible digital performances of sound recordings, including qualifying noninteractive internet radio services.
The responsibilities of these organizations differ. Licensing through one organization does not automatically provide every right necessary for all music uses.
Internet Radio & Streaming Compliance
Internet radio services may be subject to requirements under the United States Copyright Act, including Sections 112 and 114.
Qualifying noninteractive digital radio services may operate under statutory licensing provisions when applicable requirements are satisfied.
These requirements can include royalty payments, reporting of music usage, recordkeeping, and restrictions on programming and listener interaction.
Interactive music services, including certain forms of on-demand listening, may require direct authorization from applicable rights holders.
CLE Radio evaluates music distribution features according to their intended use and applicable licensing requirements.
Podcasts & On-Demand Audio
Podcasts, interviews, recorded shows, and other on-demand audio may contain copyrighted music, recordings, or other protected material.
Permission to broadcast a song through a qualifying internet radio service does not necessarily authorize its inclusion in an on-demand podcast.
Podcast producers and contributors are responsible for ensuring that material they submit is original, properly licensed, used with permission, or otherwise legally authorized.
CLE Radio reserves the right to remove or restrict audio content when ownership or authorization cannot be established.
Artist & Music Submissions
Artists, labels, representatives, and other authorized contributors may submit music for consideration.
By submitting material, contributors represent that they have the authority to provide it and to grant the permissions expressly agreed to during the submission process.
Submitting music does not guarantee airplay, promotion, inclusion in a playlist, or acceptance into the CLE Radio music library.
CLE Radio may decline or remove submissions that do not meet editorial, technical, or rights requirements.
Submission alone does not transfer copyright ownership to CLE Radio.
Community Content & Member Responsibilities
CLE Radio members may participate in community discussions and share permitted content, including text, photographs, and other media.
Members must not upload or distribute copyrighted material without appropriate authorization or another valid legal basis.
Prohibited submissions include unauthorized music recordings, pirated media, infringing photographs or videos, and content that violates the intellectual property rights of others.
Members retain ownership of their original content, subject to the permissions established in CLE Radio’s applicable membership and community terms.
CLE Radio reserves the right to moderate, restrict, or remove content that violates its policies or applicable law.
Copyright Infringement & DMCA Notices
CLE Radio respects the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and provides a process for reporting suspected copyright infringement.
Copyright owners or their authorized representatives may submit a written notice identifying material believed to infringe their rights.
A copyright notice should include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work.
- Identification and location of the allegedly infringing material, including the relevant URL.
- Contact information for the complaining party.
- A statement of good-faith belief that the disputed use is unauthorized.
- A statement that the information is accurate and that the complaining party is authorized to act for the rights holder, made under penalty of perjury.
- A physical or electronic signature.
