Ariana Grande continues her latest musical chapter with “Stay,” a short, intimate track from her eighth studio album, Petal. Released July 31, 2026, the song arrives as Grande balances a major new album, the final dates of her Eternal Sunshine Tour and a planned break from the public spotlight.
“Stay” is the fourth song on Petal. Spotify and Amazon Music both list the track at approximately 2 minutes and 28 seconds, making it one of the album’s shorter songs. It follows “kiss me,” “hate that i made you love me” and the title track, “petal.”
That placement matters. By the time listeners reach “Stay,” Grande has already established the emotional direction of the album. The song helps keep that personal atmosphere moving forward without overstaying its welcome.

Petal is Grande’s eighth studio album and follows 2024’s Eternal Sunshine. The new project was released through Babydoll Music and Republic Records on July 31.
Universal Music confirmed that Grande and longtime collaborator ILYA co-wrote and produced the album. Max Martin also joined them as a co-writer and producer on three tracks.
That creative team is significant.
Grande has spent years working with some of pop music’s most successful producers, but her music has increasingly carried her own creative identity. On Petal, she is not simply performing material created for her. She has a central role in shaping the album itself.

Grande entered the Petal era with considerable momentum.
The album’s lead single, “hate that i made you love me,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Universal Music reported that the achievement gave Grande her tenth career Hot 100 No. 1.
It also extended an unusual streak. Grande became the first artist to have the lead single from each of her first eight studio albums debut inside the Hot 100 Top 10.
That level of commercial success gives songs such as “Stay” a massive potential audience even when they are not positioned as the album’s primary single.
The full album contains 12 tracks on its standard streaming edition, according to Spotify and Amazon Music. “Stay” appears early in the sequence before “oh well,” “big feelings” and “freak.”

Grande Is Finishing the Eternal Sunshine Tour
The release of Petal also comes while Grande remains on the road.
Her Eternal Sunshine Tour is currently in London for a 10-show residency at the O2 Arena. The run is scheduled to conclude September 1.
One of the biggest moments of the London residency came August 16, when Grande surprised the audience by bringing her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo onstage.
Grande and Erivo performed “For Good” from Wicked: For Good and reunited for their “Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again” medley.
The appearance connected Grande’s two dominant creative worlds of recent years.
Her music career has continued to produce major albums and tours, while her performance as Glinda in Wicked expanded her career further into film and musical theater.
Ariana Grande Is Preparing to Step Away
There is another reason the Petal era feels different.
Grande plans to step back from the public eye following the completion of her tour.
Reuters reported that the break will begin after the Eternal Sunshine Tour concludes September 1. Grande has also withdrawn from the planned 2027 London production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.
Grande later explained during a Chicago concert that the decision was not sudden. She said it had been carefully considered rather than being a reaction to one particular event.
That gives Petal an unusual position in her career.
Instead of immediately leading into another large promotional cycle, the album may become the soundtrack to a period when Grande deliberately becomes less visible.
“Stay” Captures a Quieter Side of Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande has built her career around a voice capable of handling enormous pop records, R&B melodies and demanding theatrical material.
But some of her most interesting music comes when she does less.
“Stay” is part of that quieter side of Petal. At only about two and a half minutes, the track does not need a sprawling arrangement to make its point. It provides another piece of the emotional world Grande has constructed around the album.
With Petal now available, her tour nearing its conclusion and a break from public life approaching, Grande is entering one of the most interesting transitions of her career.
