Cavaliers Sign Center Khalifa Diop After Three Seasons Overseas

The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed center Khalifa Diop, bringing their 2022 second-round draft pick to the NBA after three seasons playing professionally in Spain.

Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman announced the signing.

Diop was selected by Cleveland with the 39th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

2022 Draft Pick Finally Joins Cavaliers

Rather than immediately joining the Cavaliers, the Senegalese center continued developing overseas.

He spent the past three seasons with Baskonia in Spain and competed in both Liga ACB and the EuroLeague.

Last season, Diop appeared in 47 games and averaged 3.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game.

Diop Adds Size to Cleveland’s Frontcourt

The signing gives Cleveland another frontcourt option as the Cavaliers prepare for the 2026-27 season.

Diop has previous experience with the organization after appearing with Cleveland during the 2023 NBA Summer League.

His first NBA contract brings a player Cleveland has controlled the rights to since 2022 into the team’s active roster picture.
