Cleveland police are investigating a series of vehicle break-ins in North Collinwood where residents say locked cars were entered without visible damage. The incidents occurred in the Beachland Park area along Landseer Avenue and Canterbury Avenue, near Lakeshore Boulevard. Police reports show that several vehicles were entered overnight between August 18 and August 19. Residents told officers their cars had been locked. In several cases, there were no broken windows or obvious signs of forced entry.
Locked Vehicles Entered Without Visible Damage
That has led some neighbors to wonder whether the person responsible used electronic technology to unlock the vehicles. Cleveland police say they do not yet have enough evidence to confirm that theory. Items reported stolen included cash, coin purses, sunglasses, medication and AirPods. One resident told police that a Ring doorbell camera captured a small red SUV parked nearby around the time of one of the incidents. Another resident received an electronic alert showing that a vehicle door had been opened during the night.
Police Review Reports and Surveillance
Police have not announced any arrests. Investigators are asking residents to provide surveillance video or images that could help identify a suspect or vehicle. The incidents have concerned people living in the neighborhood because the cars appeared to have been secured. Police confirmed at least one theft-from-a-motor-vehicle report involving a locked car that was entered without visible damage. Residents are being reminded not to leave cash, medication, electronics or other valuables inside unattended vehicles. Police continue reviewing reports and available surveillance footage.
