At just 23 years old, Olivia Rodrigo has already experienced several careers’ worth of success.
She went from Disney television star to global recording sensation almost overnight. Her first single became a cultural phenomenon. Her first two albums debuted at No. 1. She won three Grammy Awards before turning 20.
Now Rodrigo has entered a new chapter with her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, released June 12, 2026. The record expands her sound while maintaining the emotionally direct songwriting that made her one of the defining pop artists of her generation.
Olivia Rodrigo Started as an Actress
Olivia Isabel Rodrigo was born February 20, 2003, in Murrieta, California.
Her father is Filipino-American, while her mother has German and Irish ancestry. Rodrigo has frequently discussed the importance of her Filipino heritage and representation in entertainment.
She also has significant hearing loss in her left ear. Rodrigo said in a 2026 interview that she is about 60% deaf in that ear and first learned about the impairment through hearing tests when she was in kindergarten.

Three years after Guts, Rodrigo returned with You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
The 13-song album was released June 12, 2026. Its official track listing includes “Drop Dead,” “Stupid Song,” “Honeybee,” “Maggots for Brains,” “The Cure,” “Expectations” and “Cigarette Smoke.”
One of its biggest surprises is “What’s Wrong With Me,” which features Robert Smith of The Cure.
The collaboration fits Rodrigo’s increasingly visible interest in alternative and rock music.
“Drop Dead,” released ahead of the album, provided an early look at the new era. Its official video was directed by Petra Collins and filmed at the Palace of Versailles.
Apple Music described the album as Rodrigo raising both her “game and her standards,” with songs examining the excitement, fear, disappointment and uncertainty surrounding romantic relationships.
Her 2026 live performances have reinforced that evolution. At a surprise August concert at Warsaw in Brooklyn, Rodrigo performed for roughly 1,000 fans in a stripped-down setting. The Guardian praised the performance while noting how easily she moved between emotional ballads and guitar-driven pop-punk.
