A major Streetsboro construction project has entered a new phase with key intersections reopening while crews continue work on the $6.1 million pavement replacement program.
The intersection of State Route 14 and State Route 43 is open again following months of construction. State Route 303 and Diagonal Road have also reopened.
Construction began in late March. The Ohio Department of Transportation reduced traffic at State Routes 14 and 43 to one lane in each direction and prohibited left turns while crews worked on the project.
ODOT also closed the intersection of State Route 303 and Ranch Road.
The project experienced a setback in May after cracks were discovered in newly poured concrete.
Streetsboro Mayor Glenn Broska said reopening the major intersections should make it easier for customers to return to businesses affected by the construction.
Work is not finished.
ODOT plans to convert the State Route 303 and Ranch Road intersection into a signalized intersection. State data covering 2017 through 2019 identified 23 crashes there, with sideswipe collisions accounting for most of them.
Additional pavement work is also planned. Crews will repave from Interstate 480 to Portage Point and will work on State Route 43 from the southern Streetsboro city limit to Market Drive.
ODOT spokesperson Ray Marsch said much of the remaining repaving will take place overnight to reduce traffic disruptions.
The expected work hours are generally between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Drivers traveling around the continuing construction at State Route 303 and Ranch Road are being directed to use Superior Road and State Route 14.
Streetsboro is a major traffic corridor in Portage County, with Routes 14, 43 and 303 carrying substantial local and regional traffic.
ODOT expects the overall project to be completed by December 1.
