A Strongsville customer filed a police incident report after dash-camera footage showed a technician driving his vehicle well above the speed limit during a short test drive following a tire repair.
Matt Kizys told News 5 Cleveland that he took his vehicle to the Conrad’s Tire Express & Total Car Care on Pearl Road on August 27 after driving over wire and needing a tire patched.
After the repair, Kizys said he was told the vehicle needed a test drive to reset its tire-pressure monitoring system.
His dash camera recorded the trip.
According to the footage provided to News 5, the vehicle reached approximately 57.3 mph on a residential road with a posted 25 mph speed limit. The test drive lasted about three minutes.
Kizys reviewed the video after the vehicle returned and raised the issue with the store.
He later filed an incident report with the Strongsville Police Department on August 28. The police report described the incident as unauthorized use.
A Strongsville officer documented speaking with a Conrad’s manager, who said the technician was being disciplined internally.
Kizys also said a district manager contacted him after video of the incident was posted on social media. According to Kizys, the district manager described the technician’s conduct as unacceptable and asked him to remove the online post.
News 5 reported that it contacted the Strongsville Conrad’s location several times seeking additional comment. A manager at the store said employees had been told not to comment.
Kizys said his main concern was the way his vehicle was driven and the company’s handling of the incident.
No crash occurred during the test drive.
The case was documented by Strongsville police after Kizys provided information about the incident. The report and dash-camera footage became the basis of the local news report published this week.
